Wedding types

Every kind of wedding, done properly

Thirty people in a pub, two of you on a clifftop, or a weekend of bell tents in a paddock. Pick the shape of your day and we'll match you with vendors who work that way — up to four per service, free for couples.

20 – 50 guests

Micro weddings

Smaller numbers usually mean a higher spend per head — restaurant buy-outs, better wine and a longer photography package — while the total stays well under a traditional reception.

Typical spend $12,000 – $30,000

2 – 12 guests

Elopements

Celebrant and photographer are the bulk of it. Add travel, a nice dinner and flowers and most elopements still cost less than the deposit on a traditional venue.

Typical spend $3,000 – $12,000

40 – 150 guests

Pub weddings

Most pubs run on a minimum spend rather than a hire fee, and that spend goes on food and drinks you'd be buying anyway. It's the best value format in Australian weddings.

Typical spend $8,000 – $25,000

60 – 250 guests

Hotel weddings

Per-head packages usually cover food, beverage, staffing and the room. Watch for AV charges, cakeage and minimum-night accommodation clauses.

Typical spend $25,000 – $70,000

40 – 180 guests

All-inclusive weddings

Packages are usually quoted per head. The saving is real, but always price the same components separately once so you know what you're comparing.

Typical spend $18,000 – $50,000

50 – 150 guests

Camping weddings

The land is often cheap or free; the infrastructure isn't. Marquee, bathrooms, power, water and waste are the real line items.

Typical spend $15,000 – $40,000

30 – 120 guests

Backyard weddings

You save on venue hire and spend it on hire equipment: marquee, flooring, tables, glassware, bathrooms and staff.

Typical spend $12,000 – $35,000

10 – 80 guests

Destination weddings

Fewer guests, higher spend per head. Travel, accommodation and a multi-day schedule usually cost more than the ceremony itself.

Typical spend $25,000 – $80,000
